Inspired by Octavia Butler’s 1976 Patternmaster sci-fi model. A coming-of-age story where Teray is running from his captors in a forest. As he makes his escape he searches for his twin brother and discovered a mythic Patternmaster who seeks to show him the way to not just his brother, but to himself.

This project aimed to create a blend of drama and intimacy through a mythic and raw experience surrounded by nature. This was my second collaboration with Henry where we took a similar approach as on Earth Mother, Sky Father where we chose a setting that creates a theatrical stage for our performers to improvise on. The smooth serene moves of the camera coupled with the dancers unconventional movements help create the bizarre surreal sci-fi feel we were looking for.

This project was lensed with a ZERØ OPTIK rehoused Nikon 15mm and TRIBE7 BLACKWING7 lenes.
